Do you need books and/or articles to support your study, teaching and/or research that are not available from UCW Library?
Current UCW faculty, staff, and students can request items from partnered post-secondary institutions across BC and the Yukon using the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service through the Illume network.
To borrow an item from our partner libraries, review the guidelines and submit your request below.
ILL Guidelines
Materials That CAN Be Requested:
- Physical books for academic study, teaching, and research
- Digital articles for academic study, teaching, and research
Materials That CANNOT Be Requested:
Books and articles that are owned/subscribed to by UCW Library
- Course textbooks
- UCW students are responsible for purchasing materials required for their courses.

- Entire volumes or issues of a journal
- Multimedia (DVDs, CDs, etc.)
- Business case studies
- Check Harvard Select Case Study Collection or SAGE Business Cases databases for materials available through UCW Library
- Standards and patents
- Note: Vancouver Public Library (VPL) maintains a large collection of technical standards. Contact VPL at [email protected] or 604-331-3603 to inquiry if a particular standard is available through their collection.
- Physical books that you need in less than 2 weeks
- Books for personal and recreational use that can be obtained through a local public library
Submitting an ILL Request
Before Submitting a Request
- Search UCanSearch, library databases and print books catalogue to see if the item is available directly through UCW Library.
- Make sure the type of item you're requesting is eligible for interlibrary loan.
- See ILL Guidelines for more information on items that can and cannot be requested. Still not sure? Get help from a UCW librarian.
- Gather bibliographic information about the item you wish to request, including author, title, publication year, and preferred edition, if applicable.
- The Library may contact you for additional information if needed after submitting your request.
